Balanced squad for Asian Team Championships


National No. 1 men's doubles pair Aaron Chia (right) and Soh Wooi Yik are set to compete in the Asian Team Championships from Feb 13-18 in Setia Alam.

PETALING JAYA: National coaching director Rexy Mainaky stuck to his word by naming a balanced team of experienced shuttlers and youngsters for the Asian Team Championships from Feb 13-18 in Setia Alam.

In the men's singles, world No. 15 Ng Tze Yong has received the nod and will join world No. 10 Lee Zii Jia in the team along with youngsters Justin Hoh and Eogene Ewe.

In the men's doubles, national No. 1 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will spearhead the country's challenge along with Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and young pair Choong Hon Jian-Mohd Haikal Nazri.

Meanwhile, in the women's team event, Goh Jin Wei, K. Letshanaa, Wong Ling Ching, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman (singles), Pearly Tan, M. Thinaah, Go Pei Kee, Low Yeen Yuan, Teoh Mei Xing and Tan Zhing Yi (doubles) were selected.

The Asian team meet will act as the qualifiers for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals from April 27-May 5 in Chengdu.

Ranking points for the Paris Olympics qualification will also be up for grabs.
